#Nsfas

Background:

Nsfas is the biggest National Student Financial Scheme mzasi has to assist the poorest of the poorest of students around South Africa. Nsfas gives Grade 12 the opportunity to study further at any  TVET College, University of they chose. Nsfas provide each student registration fees, tuition, food and book allowance which is good to our societies and communities at large. Although we all know that Nsfas also has they challenges.

 Disadvantages of Nsfas:

  • It is a loan which has it own interest and we as student have to bear in mind that we will be in debt when graduating college or Varsity.
  • The student loan may be held against you when job hunting
  • Your into dept on a early age and would normally take long to pay it off.
  • Kind Gives one a better future

Advantages of Nsfas:

  • If you do perform above 75% nsfas can credit you for the modules you have distinctions.
  • Once you have been approved by nsfas you are able to check your status on your online profile
  • You are put on the institution nsfas list and you can register without any problems
  • You receive book and food allowance and accommodation is taking care off.
  • You also received travel allowance.
  • You do not have stress throughout your academic year.
As you can see a student loan is both beneficial as well limited to oneself, as an individual do not have a choice at that time and has a long term impact on our future when a person do take on a student loan.

Recommendations regarding nsfas

  • As a student get an additional part time job to start paying nsfas back.
  • Study hard so that you get above 75% in all modules if possible.
  • Use the allowance wisely, use what you need to avoid a huge amount to pay back.
  • As nsfas, http://www.nsfas.org.za/content/research-reports.html learn to understand them.

The way to go

  1. Nsfas should be a bursary not a loan.lot of students don't get jobs immediately after graduating and when they do, they have to feed their families which of it will be lot of work to them. We getting ourselves into debts at a younger age not because we want to. We do not have any choice . They should consider that.

    1. We as student need to contest nsfas on that matter because they give us the wrong empression about wether it is a loan or a busary.
      I agree 100% with you.

  2. I think Nsfas should fund the students without wanting the students to pay back the money after graduating, It should be a bursary not a loan, I don’t understand why students have to suffer while the inmates are studying for free. Some students that are still owing Nsafas are being threatened to be blacklisted

It is sad that nsfas is a loan and the disadvantage it has on a student already when finishing university.

  4. I just think that South Africans are very blessed to have such opportunities because I know in some countrues things are really bad. If you don't have money you stay at home...nobody cares. So NSFAS funded students should utilize the opportunity effectively

  5. I fully understand why NSFAS is a loan, if people don't pay back. Who is the next generation going to Higher Institutions if they can't afford it , as a student I feel that we should work with NSFAS and not against it

  9. NSFAS should be for all students who are really in need of funds and those who can afford should be at the bottom of the list.
